School Reports

Went to Millfield this PM to catch up with the kid's teachers and find out how they are doing.

First off we saw Miss Hewitt who explained that Nat was doing very well and was a joy to teach but that he still had problems with the presentation of his work. If not for this problem she had no doubts what so ever that he would have archived 5's in all his SAT'S unfortunately, because of this, she expects him to only get a 5 in science and high 4's in the other exams.

He and the other Geeks are happy to be perceived in this way and appear to thrive on their reputation for geekiness.  Apparently his sense of humour is blossoming, but there's no sign of this at home where he still remains a complete arsehole.

Secondly, we saw Miss Dunn, Hannah's teacher, and Miss Gordon the P.G.C.E. trainee who is doing her on site training there. We chatted with Miss G whilst waiting for Miss Dunn to arrive.  Miss G was very fulsome in her praise of Hannah, who she said was, very bright and able and who was also very supportive of the other pupils in her class.

Miss Dunn advised that Hannah was coping well and had little difficult with understanding but that she to suffered from the same problem as Nat, which was, that she was in too much of a hurry to get her thoughts down on paper and that as a result her presentation suffered and caused her to make simple unnecessary errors. She said she would be focusing on this with Hannah in the coming term.

World Book Day - Hannah

It is world book day and we can dress up as a literary character . I am going as Carmen.

After School Report:

When we went to the studio to buy books I had no money, but, Hollie had £2.00 leftover which shegave me.

So I bought 2 books, one on ancient Rome and the other was a double story book that I bought for Nat.

Miss Gordon, the P.G.C.E. trainee teacher thought my costume was lovely, she also told Mummy and Daddy, later on, about how good I was in class.

Last Night Tonight and More Cake 4 Me

Good old Julie, she's brought in 2 more cakes tonight (your only 50 once), one is a beautiful Black Forrest gateaux and the other is an equally scrumptious Victoria Sandwich. I've had my slice of BF and looking forward to some VS. I deserve it too! I've been for Physio this evening b4 work and whilst I know it's for my own good, in the long run, my f**king arm wasn't hurting B4 we started twisting it!

It’s amazing how you move thought the Internet; I had started looking at sites giving away free audio books and somehow ended up on Amazon looking at a trilogy of Vampire Books I’d never heard of. Old copies (1994) are going for up to £90 Hardback £50 Paperback (obviously very much in demand) but Out Of Print – W.T.F. Checked out USA Amazon, available at 10% of the price, might do some buying and selling here. The books were;

they’re extortionately expensive 2nd hand;

SO (I SAY AGAIN) WHY THE F**K ARE THEY OUT OF PRINT?

Just had the second cake - Yum Yum - very nice indeed. Could get used to this, Jane's birthday next!

By the way, it's actually Julie's birthday today - 3/3/9.
Well another 4 days at BGS draws to a close, we've certainly eaten more cake and curry than usual!

We're Having A Party (I Baggzy the Burger).

Today’s Joke

Upper Class British Fight “ I say might one ask whom it is one is twatting you excremental maternal fornicator"

Julie W is 50 tomorrow, Monday 2/3/09, but is having the day off in order to celebrate with her family. Because of this tonight, we've all brought in munchies and such, we're having a bit of a party. I've brought in some savoury chips and drips plus some lemonade (bit iffy about bringing beer).
No sign of Prashant or Carol, I think they are both on holiday tonight

Gave pen drive to Dawn with copies of audio books for her daughter Sam, hope she likes the, selection (Bryson, Dawkin and Hawkins - she's into science apparently).

The Call Centre fairly quite, so far, this evening but will it stay that way? I did manuals last night so hopefully I'll have a quite night tonight taking calls. That's all for now.
Had a meeting 9.45, came back 10.15 to 23 calls in queue - bad idea!
Ash's doing manuals tonight, Julie B doing EA (GA as was) and training Jane.

Well we ate, GOD am I full, 2 huge helpings of bharats home made curry and rice with killer popadoms plus birthday cake. 'This is why you're FAT' I can hear the Wife say! I've been given all the left over’s for the kids and Monty. I hope I'm not the one that has to clear his shits up from garden if he finishes off that curry, shades of the end of E.T. with all the people in protective suits.

Saturday 28 - First day of 2099 on the Allotment

Today was the first day that we have spent on the allotment this year.
Hannah and I did the digging and Nat did a little light weeding, but he did mend the compost bin.
The cabbages are a bit battered and have been well nibbled by something, the broad beans have caught the frost but the onions look OK.
Nat has decided where he wants to put a small pond and we found a frog - so lets hope he stays to enjoy it this summer.

It's Been a Long Time Since We Spoke!

Well hello there blogasphere, been awhile since I last visited. Got a new hip ya know, one more to go. Spent the first week of Dec08 well stitched up at Leicester General. Super surgeon whipped out me old hip and stuffed in a new one in record time, being cool and not under a general I spent the time comparing mobile phones with the gas pusher (who wasn't pushing gas as I had an epidural).

Han's Xmas Play - The Legend of the Hydra - Starring Han the Hydra

This was the Xmas play at Millfield: Greek Legends - The Hydra. No I don't understand either and I'm a Governor there. Anyway, Han was the Hydra, type casting if ever there was, and appeared regularly on stage as I tried to alternate between videoing it and photographing it. See photos below:

I'm Finally Discharged From Hospital JUST in Time to see the Annual Millfield School Xmas Concert at St. Crispin Church

I just made it to the annual concert tonight; Deb and the kids were visiting prior to the concert when one of the staff asked why i wasn't going too. It seems I was to be discharged that day but they'd failed to mention it to me. So as quickly as possible we signed the papers got the medication and hobbled off out of there. It took awhile to get to the car and even longer to get into it but eventually we were off and the kids arrived there just in time. The concert was held at the Parish Church of St Crispin Braunstone Town and Thorpe Astley, Braunstone Town

No, I don't know why this embedded album has duplicated itself!

Friday 4 July - Missed the Allotment Last Two days

Not been up either today or yesterday. Finished work 8am Thurs but had to go straight to bed as I had the night off to attend Nat's performance at the De Montford hall in the Thomas Cook Show (it was brilliant!!). Came home and popped to shops to get a few things. Nearly KILLED - as I was cycling back from Asda the handlebars of my bike came loose and suddenly I was in close intimate contact with the ground. Two very kind and concerned drivers stopped to ask if I was OK which was extremely good of them. Battered and Bruised (and somewhat shocked) I had the fun job of trying to push the bike home, sans handlebars which would not reintall into steering column, whilst carrying 2 bags of shopping. It took me approx 30mins to push the bkie 500 yards. Feeling very sore today so have stayed in bed and rested. Work Tonight!

July 2 - Back to Work Tonight

I'm back at work tonight (I work 4 nights on/4 nights off) so I won't be going up to the plot today. However, my new library card and pin have arrived today so when I've finished this I'm popping up there to see what books they've got on allotment growing etc.. Whilst I'm there I must remember to order the Neutronium Alchemist for the holiday.

Tuesday 1 July 2008 - Han and I at the Allotment

I didn't go alone today. Nat's got his extra lessons on Tuesday, so I thought it might be nice if Hannah and I went up together whilst he was there and did a bit of digging together. She did her best, bless her, even though she's got quite painful stomach ache from the constipation she's suffering from. Whatever else, she's great at filling daddy's hat with water, which was very cooling and much needed. We started clearing the weeds about the patch we had covered over on Sunday and made fair headway. Deb and Nat arrived later and we carried on until about 05:30 then went home for tea. The photo's of today are included in yesterdays post as unfortunately I forgot to upload yesterdays photo's separately from todays so their all togheter (if that makes any sense). Here's a couple of photo's of Hannah doing her bit.

Monday 30 June - All Alone at the Allotment

Oh well, the kids are in school, Deb's at work I've taken the dog for a walk it's 12:00 and I can't put it off any longer - it's time to go solo. First problem, how do you carry a fork on a bicycle? With difficulty!! Thought I'd get some more digging done  so I started work on the section just up from the broad bean plants (we did in front yesterday). After a couple of hours got this turned over, nicked a chair from the allotment next door and sat down to enjoy a well deserved beer. Whilst sitting George happened along and we got chatting. Seems he had a very interesting job before he retired designing machine parts. Anyway he gave me some tips which I'm desperately trying to remember and we chewed the fat (as the yanks would say) for awhile. Left at about 03:15 to be home in time to take Hannah to the doctors.

Saturday 28 June - First Days Work at the Allotment

Saturday 28 June 2008. Well, it's time to make a start. The four of us arrived mid morning with good intentions ready to being turning this overgrown piece of land into something that will provide us with fresh wholesome food for the foreseeable future. With the price of food rocketing as it is and with no end to this in sight this could be the best decision we've made in a long time. We got started, I did the digging, Deb did the weeding and the kids did what they could. I think the photos will show what we managed to get done.

Thursday 26 June - We've Got an Allotment

Our plot at Rosamund Road in Leicester is 10 yards by 30 yards and gives us a whopping 300 square yards of growing space.

Unfortunately, as you can see from the photos, we're going to have to do a bit(!) of digging before we can contemplate cultivating such a large area. We didn't do anything this first day, just got shown around the site by George (The Allotment Manager) and had choose which of the 3 available plots we wanted. The one we picked looks very over grown, but, luckily, has only just been let go by the previous occupant, so clearing it, hopefully, shouldn't be too difficult! Anyway, we're coming back on Saturday to make a start. Whilst we were there, we met Terry who was the previous manager and who has the plot next to ours. Apparently he's had it for over 50 years and it looks great - one day perhaps so will ours. He gave us our first produce when he presented us with one of his beautiful lettuces (see photo's).

Millfield Sports Day

Here are the photos I took of Han's sports day. As you can see she's very into sports and competing making her, at the time, unique in this household. Great Sports day, as usual, Millfield puts such a lot of effort into making sure it goes right.
