Alice in Wonderland and Sceptics in the Pub

It's been a busy week for once; on Tuesday Hannah performed for the first time as Tweedledum in the Brockington College performance of Alice in Wonderland while that same night nathaniel and I went to sceptics in the pub meeting (my second in four yrs bloody night shift) featuring a member of the humanist Society describing the work of the British humanist Association whilst we were there he had a pint of cider and I had a pint of Porter we were also invited to attend a nonreligious church ceremony on Sunday is at Leicester secular hall.
The following day the Wednesday that is we all went to see Hannah performed in Alice in Wonderland and Shannon came along too. Hannah was absolutely superb as Tweedledum I think it must've been typecasting because you often twiddles and she certainly very very dumb

A Return to Blogging

A Return To Blogging

Well hello there sweet blog, you wonderful Googlee thingy that you are, have you missed me? It is I mysickbones to the internet but simply Meyrick to my confidants such as your own sweet self.  Have you missed me? Have you grown tired of being updated with Facebook and twitter links that more often than not don’t actually open any links when you click them? Have you missed sharing my amazing adventures in sitting at home during the early hours of the morning watching recorded TV programmes? Do you yearn to experience such excitement once more?

Fear not dearest Blog for I have returned and I promise I’ll never desert you for so long again. No matter what I will endeavour to have something to tell you, however trivial, everyday.  I’m currently having a riding fest of nonfictional political and economic works most prominent amongst which are the books of Noam Chomsky and I think I’m rapidly becoming an Anarcho-syndicalist just like him.  (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anarcho-syndicalism). I’m certainly certain that the current capitalist system can’t keep merrily chugging along impoverishing the poor, enriching the already obscenely rich and on the way destroying the planet. I’m currently reading or have just read:

Noam Chomsky:  Anarchism

Noam Chomsky:  Hopes and Prospects

George Orwell:  Homage to Catalonia

Christopher Hitchins:  Arguably: Selected Essays

Andrei Lankov:  The Real North Korea: Life and Politics in the Failed Stalinist Utopia.

A J Turney:  Marius’ Mules 1: The Invasion of Gaul (fictionalised account of Caesar’s conquest of Gaul)

Joseph Robert Lewis:  Halcyon: The Complete Trilogy (fiction; steam punk; alternative history; fantasy)

Naomi Klein:  This Changes Everything: Capitalism vs. The Climate

Chris Hedges:  Death of The Liberal Class

Paul Krugman:  End This Depression Now

Owen Jones:  The Establishment and How They Get Away With It.

Max Hastings:  Catastrophe 1914: Europe Goes To War.

David Baldacci:  The Innocent (fiction; thriller; the first of his books I’ve read)

Michael Dobbs:  The House of Cards Trilogy (fiction; thriller; politics; Francis Urquhart)

George Mann:  Ghosts of Manhattan (Fiction; steam punk; alternative history; fantasy; thriller)

Marcus Chown:  What A Wonderful World (Science; Humour)

Marcus Chown:  Quantum Theory Cannot Hurt You: A Guide To The Universe (Science; Humour)

Douglas Adams:  The Ultimate Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy (fiction; all five volumes of the famous trilogy)

George R.R. Martin:  A Storm of Swords (Fiction; a Song of Ice and Fire; Game of Thrones)

Joseph Nassise: The Great Undead War 2: On Her Majesty’s Behalf  (Fiction; steam punk; alternative history; fantasy; thriller)

As one can see a somewhat eclectic but rather subversive mix so pass my V for Vendetta Guy Fawkes mask cos I’m off to occupy something.

I’ve just found a source of free George Orwell books, courtesy of the University of Adelaide (https://ebooks.adelaide.edu.au/o/orwell/george/) which I’m going to download as .epubs because some of the copies I have on my Nook aren’t particularly well formatted and all these are perfect.

Today and tomorrow it’s the annual Leicester Riverside Festival and for about the fourth year in a row I’m working this weekend and will miss it. Gave the info to Nathaniel* in case he and Shannon might have wanted to go, after they went to the vinyl record fair (HE BOUGHT 2 LPs FOR £15 AND HE HAS NOT EVEN GOT A RECORD DECK YET!*) but they ended up not doing so...

Deborah mentioned two possible holiday options for next year;  one being a  7 day cruise of the Baltic  taking in Scandinavia and St Petersburg in  Russia or the other an 11 day cruise of the Mediterranean which includes a stop at Barcelona. How do you choose as these are both places I’m desperate to see before I die?  Will it simple come down to 7 days vs. 11 days?

Hannah was at the Royal Infirmary Accident and Emergency unit last night from 7.30 until 10.45 because recently she has begun having heavy nose bleeds (as I did as a teen and Nat did a few years ago) but these recent ones have been very severe and yesterday after going through 2 boxes of tissues over a 3 hour period she still couldn’t get it to coagulate and stop. Poor thing ended up with a big clamp on her nose which she came home with. She began having another bleed just as I was leaving for work tonight so we may have to go in again soon  so she can have a vein cauterised or something because she can’t continue to lose this much blood.

*Re: Nat, my weird Son has just picked up a 35 millimetre film camera from his Granddad which uses real film; he’s also got a Top Hat and a Fez, he’s just ordered a monocle on line and now he’s buying vinyl records and intends to get a record deck ... I keep asking myself where I went wrong?
