Haedings and Tags to be Done

Nat came downstairs at 6:00 and guess what? After we’d returned for his paper round he sat on his arse reading White Dwarf (the Warhammer magazine) before being remaindered, yet again, that he needed to get his act together get upstairs and get changed for school. If only he’d read academic material with such enthusiasm!

Nat normally, sort of, cycles to school but today was the last stage of the Kenya Trip selection process and so he was going to have to stay behind after at school whilst this took place. Because of this Deborah was going to drive him there and then pick him up later when he’d finished. I was going to walk Hannah to school and take Monty out for a walk at the same time. However, shortly after dropping Nat off, Deborah returned after she’s dropped Nat off and offered to take Hannah to school because it had just started pouring with rain.

Poor old Monty, he’s got used to going to school with Hannah and was getting really excited as she got dressed ready to leave. The Deborah arrives and tells us that it’s too wet to walk and the poor sod misses out. The upshot of this was that, even more than normal, he drove me to distraction continually bringing a ball to me to throw for him. In addition he went into his mad mode and started running back and forth and leaping on to the sofa in his weird fanatical way. I’ve never seen another dog do this and I keep trying to film him but by the time I’ve grabbed my phone and got the video operational he’s stopped. In fact I think he waits until he sees me grab the phone before switching immediately in to calm mode…the little bastard! He seems determined not to allow me to become a YouTube star on the back of his strange behaviour.

Our new shift starts tonight so I needed to go to bed and get a few hours sleep. I decided I’d watch the great JK show first but ended up putting this on hold because I was busy on the PC. By the time I’d got round to watching it was nearly midday and as I was about to go to bed the postman knocked the door and delivered the car phone holder I’d ordered a few days before on eBay. Oh Dear, what a Silly Billy I then became. I decided, you see, to open it there and then and take a look at how it worked before going to beddibyes. I, finally, managed to work out how to fit the phone on it and then, after I’d done that, I tried to get it to adhere to the mantle by use of the vacuum cup on its bottom. Well it only took me roughly 10 minutes to put the thing back together after it fell from the mantel and the good news is that it didn’t appear to be damaged and nor did my phone. I suppose I should consider myself lucky in so much as it fell onto the carpet rather than on to the slate hearth.

Oh I almost forgot, Donna had bought Deborah a Halogen Heater, which was on special offer somewhere in Loughborough – where Jonathon lives, and yesterday she and Hannah had brought home for her place. I’d tried it this morning because the Central Heating had gone off and it was bleeding cold and low and behold it worked as well as I’ve often told customers they do. A very nice beam of directed heat straight at me on the settee (I’m sick of writing sofa we never call it that anyway).

Finally, off to bed for some sleep and podcasts with a hot water bottle to keep me warm and I spent the afternoon alternating between sleep and rewinding Digital planet to see whether or not I’d heard all of it or if I’d gone to sleep during it. Eventually I managed to hear it all, some of it more than once or even thrice!

Nat woke me at about 5:30 and briefly told me about the latest stage in the Kenya selection procedure. This time they’d been set tasks to do in small groups, such as move a bucket of tennis balls from the bucket they’re in to another without touching the bucket and that sort of thing. He told me he’d managed these fairly easily, after 10 years in Scouts I’d have been surprised if he hadn’t, and that he’s had to change groups for each task. They were told that they would be informed as soon as possible who’d got through so, may be, with any luck, we might find out tomorrow. If he does somehow manage to get through we are going to have to put our heads together and come up with some ideas to raise sponsorship money for him. Even if next winter is as bad as this one has been I very much doubt that I’d be able to finance this on overtime alone.

Usual frosty silence between Deborah and me, she tried to break the ice but what’s the point it’ll only happen again before you know it so it seems better to remain monosyllabic. I think it was spaghetti and meatballs for tea but to be honest I can’t really recall. Got my stuff ready for work and left around 7:00 made it in for 7:30 but still late logging on because, as luck would have it, experience an urgent call of nature about 7:45. As usual there were calls in queue when we signed on but soon these were cleared and we signed off for a team brief at 9:00. Poorly old JDM having a rough time of it at the moment, his daughter Natalie, who’s working temporarily as a waitress, cut her hand, badly, on a large piece of glass at work and will have to have an operation tomorrow. It appears that the glass may have sliced the tendon in BELOW HER RIGHT INDEX FINGER SO THIS COULD TAKE QUITE AWHILE TO HEAL. What with JDM’s wife being knocked over by a dog and this eventually they’ll be swimming in compensation but that doesn’t mean much now.

The rest of the night passed fairly quietly due in part to the fact that the Mersey Mouth came to work with a bad neck and immediately went home…Hooray. We were busy until about 1:00AM then it dropped off and I took the opportunity to get this week’s blogs up to date, hopefully I’ll be able to do the same tonight for those still unfinished over the Christmas period. Eventually I may even find the time to insert the appropriate videos and photographs…fat chance!
