My New Nokia 808 PureView Arrives

It arrived it arrived it arrived this morning my new (well refurbished) Nokia 808 Pureview arrived all 41 mega-pixels of camera goodness the greatest and last ever Symbian phone (better take good care of it as they didn't make many and they weren't available on contract so mine may one day be a collectors item). It’s thinner than I expected although it does have a large camera bulge at the one end. I’d expected it to be even thicker but its not and whilst it’s heavier than most modern smart phones that just lends it gravitas. Also Deb, I was too tired, contacted virgin and hopefully I’ll have a mini sim arriving in the post tomorrow and then I can give them my PAC number and transfer my number from t-Mobile to virgin. £7.00 per month for 150 minutes of call time, 500 txts and 500 megabytes of data should see me sorted. Aside from which calls to other virgin phones are free so that’s unlimited minutes to other virgin subscribers and both Nat and Hannah are on virgin tariffs. If I get Deb’s iPhone 3GS unlocked and on virgin all calls in family will be free! Next job before the holidays is get the N8 unlocked for Hannah so she can use it on USA sim and have a decent camera. No point doing that for Nat as he takes no photographs may be worth just picking up a cheap PAYG phone over there and leaving it with Di when we come home. Deb could have my old N82 which like the 808 and N8 also has a Xenon flash and takes excellent pictures and is already unlocked. Oh what’s an 808 you ask dear reader? It’s a Nokia super camera phone and it’s the last phone Nokia ever issued running the old Symbian operating system. Here’s what it can do:

Bye Bye T-Mobile

Oh well this morning proved to be fun. Why on Earth do companies, including the one I work for, insist on making it so hard for customers to talk to them??? Take this morning as a for instance; as I mentioned in yesterday’s post I was in urgent need of speaking to someone at T-Mobile about my phone bill and yet again I was unable to log into my on line account as yet again it didn’t recognize my name nor the email address that T-Mobile use to send me their advertising gumph. I rang and tried no end of menu routes to try and speak to someone about getting access to my account and getting my phone unlocked. Eventually I hit upon the idea of pressing the option that said I wanted to leave them and low and behold I’m suddenly talking to a human being. Well I explained the problem and eventually I had access to my account (omg they had charged me an arm and leg for the smallest bit of web access to use WhatsApp when I wasn’t on a wifi connection … watch my temper bubble over dear reader as I realized just what they’d done to a customer they had already over charged for three months contract payments. OK calm down Myrick just ask them for an unlock code so you can get a USA SIM card in Florida to work in the N8. WTF you want how much to unlock the phone £20??? Oh it’s not for you it’s for Nokia (pull the other one it’s got bells on it) … OK perhaps I’ll get that done another time but what I’d like you to do now yes right now is put me through to someone who can give me a PAC code so I can leave your Shi*ty company post haste. Oh now I’m talking to Dawn who wants to know what she can do to persuade me to remain with T-Mobile. Sweet FA it turns out so I get my PAC code and tomorrow I’ll be contacting Virgin Mobile and asking them to transfer my number to them and put me on a £7 pm rolling contract with 500meg of date 150 minutes of calls and 500 txts none of which I’ll most likely ever fully utilize!
Sop here I am at work typing this the following morning in possession of Hannah’s Nokia 620 windows 8 phone using her account to WA but not getting any response for my Florida friend who I suspect has transferred all her affections to her new puppy Delly. Oh may be that’ll be for the best in the long run.
Rather than peruse the internet, particularly Twitter and Facebook on my Nexus 7 via my mifi I’ve decided to keep on reading MacMafia a fascinating exposure of international crime and its origins.

BLOG SUNDAY 28 APRIL

OK before a address anything else lets get this off my chest. On the 21 of this month my phone transferred to Pay As You Go with T-Mobile with and initial £10.00 credit on it. Earlier this evening I received a text from T-Mobile saying … your credit is low £0.97. If you've registered a credit card with us, top up, now by texting the last four digits of your card … NOTE I transferred to PAYG 7 days ago and in that time I don’t believe I've made a single phone call, send less than five texts and occasionally used mobile data to send a few WhatsApp messages which should be measured in kilobytes of data so where’s my fucking money gone I ask!!! I presume I’ve been screwed by mobile data charges and what adds insult to injury is that I’ve just checked out their website and now they are offering the very monthly deal I asked them for a month a go that they assured me they were unable to do. So f*ck you T-Mobile tomorrow I’ll be in contact to get my N8 unlocked and then get my PAC code and I'm off to Virgin Mobile where I can get unlimited texts 150 minutes of calls and 500 meg of data on a monthly rolling contract for £7.00 pm so I say again f*ck you!

See they are offering almost exactly what I asked for and what they swore they couldn’t give me … So F*ck T-Mobile and this is what I’m going to change to with Virgin:

Top of Form
Mobile SIM Only £7
SIM card cost FREE
Your tariff giv
150 minutes
        Unlimited text
              500MB Mobile Web

OK got that off my chest; on to the good news, I done gone and finally got me a Nokia 808Pureview … the last and best ever Symbian phone which if I look after it may in a few years become a collector’s item. The 808 sports the greatest very camera so far mounted on a mobile phone (41 megapixels of over sampling goodness) and retails for +£500. I managed to get a refurbished one on eBay for exactly £200.

Will pay for this in morning and hopefully receive in next few days giving me time I hope to transfer to Virgin and get them to send me a micro SIM card.
Woke this PM at 4.00 to pee and discovered Nat was already home and sat on the l*o trying to p*o. Apparently everything ached but he couldn’t say how far he’s hiked and exactly where he’s hiked … oh god … downstairs Hannah was being her usual cheeky self and in the end she became so noisy just as I was about to leave for work and needed a little quiet chilling time that I had to shout at her so she was last seen storming off to her bedroom as I left for work.
Again we were snowed under with calls which really shouldn’t happen on a Sunday evening in spring and I’m pretty sure that whatever they are doing in Cardiff but taking our telephone calls doesn’t seem to be one of them. Mind you, saying that I had a number of call backs later that could only have arisen because someone in Cardiff spun a customer a line of bull.
I stole Hannah’s Nokia Lumia 620 this evening with a view to seeing what it could do and learning about Windows Phone8 operating system when it was quiet. In addition I was going to show everyone; especially Hasmukh what a windows phone was like so imagine my surprise when I took it over to him to find he’d brought in his daughters’ Lumia 920 the current flagship. Gosh hadn’t realized how big the 920 was but must say if I hadn’t bought the 808 I’d be sorely tempted to get one.
I also used the 620 to tether the Nexus 7 to the internet proving that I don’t necessarily need my mifi. Spoke briefly to Di using the WA on the 620 but she was busy with her new pup so surfed Facebook and Twitter on the Nexus for a while before writing this.
