Friday
Can’t recall anything in particular happening today; the news programmes began to report that the public reaction to the “Leaders Debate” appeared to be that Nick Clegg had made the best showing of the three leaders and the proportion of people polled who said they would vote LibDem was raising steadily. Deb continues to detest David “call me Dave” Cameron whenever he appears on the goggle box. I’ve linked Mrs Stephen Fry’s tweets to my mobile so that each Twitter “she” makes gets sent to my phone as a text message. This may have been a mistake is she is continuously tweeting volcano jokes and my phone seems to be continually beeping to tell me that I’ve received yet another one of her tweets.
Poor old Donna’s still in hospital re: her pancreas it is causing her excruciating pain so she’s doped up on super strength pain killers. Because it’s a tricky and dangerous operation the doctors are loath to remove it but it looks as though they may have no other choice. As a result of her hospitalisation, Jonathon, her friend, is staying at her home and is taking care of her 9 yr old Son Josh. Josh was kicked out of his house by his Father, shortly after being thumped by the same, and the evil cow (perhaps pig would have been more appropriate) he shares his sty with…what a pair of shit bags they both are. They personify selfishness and entirely deserve one another. Undoubtedly he’ll give her the elbow too in a few years and then she’ll know what it’s like to be shat on from a great height. Couldn’t happen to a more deserving arsehole!
Saturday
Lots of things to do today, Deb (who’s a Governor there) has been invited to attend the opening of the artificial pitch at Brockington College (Nat’s school) this morning but Han’s also supposed to be at Saffron Lane Athletics Stadium this AM with Cubs. As usual Nat will be heading for town to spend the day with his fellow nerds at the GamesWorkshop store playing Warhammer 40,000. We left him at home to be collected by Sam’s parents and drove Han to Saffron Lane and dumped her with her pack.
Deb and I then drove to Brockington where Deb introduced herself to Vanessa Hood, the Principal, who conducted us both through to the VIP lounge to join and breakfast with the rest of the Great and the Good .. Rank hath its privileges. We helped ourselves to juice and fresh pasties (Yummy) and Deb met a few of her fellow Governors. The opening was quite spectacular with cheer leaders, speeches and such like.
The pitch is fantastic and well wicked as the younger generation might put it. We couldn’t stay for the events planned for the rest of the day because we had to collect Han. So, once again, we jumped into the Bones Mobile and headed back to Saffron Lane. Han had finished all her events shortly before we arrived so we collected her and headed off home. I think we did a little shopping on route but I’m not certain.
The next stage, Han has ballet on Saturday afternoons so we dropped her off with Miss Deidre at Trinity Church and headed for the allotment. We had a couple of hours before we needed to pick Han back up so we finally managed to get sdome work done on our plot. Up until now, this year, when the weathers been nice we’ve been busy and when we’ve been available the weathers been shit. I dug up the part of the plot while Deb concentrated on weeding. While we were working a young (20 something) lad cycled passed and stopped to chat. He’s just taken over the allotment further on from ours and we chatted for about 10 minutes. He seemed top be a really nice lad.
We called it a day at about 2:30 and left to fetch Han from ballet. When we got home I think I fell asleep, I had another sleepless night, because I don’t recall Nat getting home and when I enquired as to his whereabouts I was told he’s been home and had then gone to friends to play on their X-Box. He returned at 6:20 literally just as Doctor Who was starting… good timing Nat! I don’t like the new look of the Daleks much prefer the model they’ve used up to now:
The new ones don’t look scary enough:
I’m still not sure whether I like the new Doctor as much as the previous; only time will tell I suppose.
Taking of old favourites the new remake of “The Prisoner” aired at 9:00; can’t really express an opinion on this as I kept falling asleep during the program thus missing quite a lot. Deb says it was totally confusing but she would say that, what with her being a girl and all that! Everyone knows that women can’t follow complicated plots!!! Everyone went to bed shortly after the program had finished except for me, I was left asleep on the sofa. It’s rugby tomorrow.
Sunday
The Vipers are playing Aylestone St James (Jimmies) RFC today so we were up and ready to leave the house at around 9:00. As usual we got lost on route and as usual we had to fall back on my phones GPS capabilities to get us to our destination. We were early and among the first to arrive. The club is located off of Covert Lane in
Scraptoft and has a rather lovely view of the surrounding countryside. Han wanted to use the loo when we arrived so she and I headed for the club house. When we went inside the smell was wonderful, they were frying bacon in the kitchen and, as everyone knows, this is one of the best smells in the World. It was a lovely sunny day but cold at first so we were glad we’d brought our fleeces. It soon warmed up however and it ended up being a gorgeous day. The lads were playing two games, the firsat against Jimmies and the second against ?????
The first match started badly with J’s running rings around us and piling on the tries. However when we pointed out that they were fielding over age players thing changed dramatically. Once these older boys were removed the Vipers staged a comeback and started scoring tries of their own. Nat scored a try when he smashed his way through the opposition leaving sundry bodies in his wake! In fact the team really meshed as a unit and started showing real skill. It was a super game.
After Jimmies had played them we played????? And while we didn’t win the game again it was a great contest and again Nat scored a try!
When we were done Nat made a point of making sure that everyone who had an X-Box knew that his new X-Box Live gaming name was U BUMMER. The name was well received and I think he’s glad now that I suggested it. We left Jimmies at about 1:00 and drove home. On the way we diverted to do some shopping at the Oadby ASDA store. The number of LibDem posters on display on route was astonishing and I didn’t see any for any of the other parties. The TV and newspapers are reporting that polls are showing a 10 point gain for the LibDems since the leader’s debate, putting them neck and neck with both Labour and the Tories. Han wasn’t feeling very well having had too much exposure to the Sun and when we got home she curled up on the sofa and went to sleep. Deb, Nat and I had lunch outside, chicken salad and fizzy wine. Nat discovered that he loved spring onions and so I gave him mine. The rest of the afternoon passed in a slightly alcoholic haze. I don’t recall anything else of interest during the rest of Sunday. Again I was abandoned asleep on the sofa until I woke around 2:00. Han was sleeping with Deb so, once again, I slept in her bed. I didn’t wake until 11:00 next day, after everyone had left for school or work.
Monday
I stayed up until 3:00 then went back to bed for a few hours. Up for 6:00, Deb’s about to take Nat and Jonathon (not the same Jonathon) to Leicestershire scouts HQ for a briefing about the Queen’s Medal course they are about to start on. This is the scouting equivalent of The Duke of Edinburgh Award bronze award. Darren, Jonathons Dad, will pick them up at 9:00 and bring them home. Han should have had Cubs this evening but it’s the AGM and quiz night so she didn’t go. We couldn’t attend because I’m working tonight.
Deb dropped me at work at 8:00, someone was using my desk again so I signed on elsewhere. I returned Jenny’s book on William Morris to her when she came to work. She and Julie B had more tokens for schools for Han and Nat. Before I’d left home the news had announced that some flights would be allowed tomorrow but this may not pan out as there’s just been an announcement on the BBC website that there’s been a fresh eruption and another cloud of ash is heading our way…gist to Mrs SF’s mill?
I received a call for a Mr Sargent tonight and somehow or other it came up in conversation toward the end of the call that he had worked in electronics before he retired and he had been part of the team that had built the first computer used at Aldermaston Atomic Weapons Establishment, using valves taken from the original Colossuses computer built at Bletchley Park during the war. We had a fascinating 5 minute chat about this, it’s amazing the things that people have done.
That’s about it for tonight apart from a Funny Picture that made me giggle this evening.
Well Goodnight one and all!
