Thursday/Friday: Another Horrendous Night on EA
Once more SNOW and ICE cause the UK to grind to a halt and yet again we are inundated with calls. Tonight was especially bad, still no JDM plus C, Jen and JB ill and D's baby in hospital, so that's five down to start with or half our complement of staff. In addition H asked me to do EA and it was a nightmare and to think only last week I was certain I'd never be doing it again after all that was one of the reasons why I choose to stay a part of our existing team. We didn't stop, from 21:00, when we took over, to 03:00 it was non stop. The only break I got was when I went outside to clear my head and inadvertantly left my pass on the desk. Quick trip round the outside of the building looking for someone to let me back in! Bh and Prash stayed on with me until just after 03:00 but after that I was on my own and it was still busy. Finally noticed a text from one of our missing members and made a note to call them when I got home. It's now 05:52 I finish at 07:00 and I've yet to take my lunch or any other breaks. Oh well, it's our last night tonight and much as I'd like the overtime cash I don't think I'll be coming back in again untill we start again on Thursday. Apart from anything else I'm pretty sure I'm coming down with Hannah's cold now. Can't stop coughing, and hurt all over, especiall my right arm. The old RSI seems to be playing up again I'd best start stretching the long latex bands again asap.

Draft :
Thursday 16/12
Slept badly and was really pissed off when, after they got home, the kids, Hannah in particular, kept waking me up when I did manage to drift off. Got up just after 5PM but felt so sick with tiredness that I wasn’t able to eat dinner and gave it to the kids to share. Left for work shortly after 7PM; couldn’t find m y bicycle light, don’t say I lost it this morning, and when I tried to use the brakes and gears these were frozen up. Managed to free the back brake but was left with 2 gears and only front brake and no light on icy pavements. For some reason it took me longer than normal to get to work, can’t imagine why. I’m afraid I may have to take the bike into the shop as it looks as if the brake and gear cables have actually been damaged.
Well got there, eventually, and come 8pm there was no sign of JDM and nothing was said about his absence, then, so I later sent him a text to check everything was OK only to get his reply saying that he’d been suspended.
A little later Prash asked me to text him asking if was OK, which I did, and later still we were “advised of the situation” to wit, told sod all! I told everyone last week that the proposed changes to working routines were fraught with problems and were going to cause great upset; I’m sorry to have to say that it appears that I wasn’t wrong! Joined Up Thinking; Why Is It So Rare? Now is the time for all good men (persons) to keep their fucking heads below the parapet!

JDM Suspended!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wednesday 15/12
Bed most of day, put podcasts on Nat’s mp3 (Sandisk Sansa) slept intermittently, han ballet nat scouts me work. Call 6:45 Nat answered and said I wasn’t home before asking who was calling. Call was from work but they disconnected before I could interfere and there was no way to call back as call from generic business free phone so no way of knowing from whom. There was some kind of dispute/bust-up at work between JDM and PM resulting in JDM, after discussion with Tramadol, leaving building and not being seen again that night. Prior to this the team had discussed their Xmas outing next week at the (Paris) Hilton Hotel and I’m glad I declined the offer to attend. The prices of the drinks are unbelievable; even the happy hour prices are more than I’d be willing to pay, I know my highly unusual use of public bars has somewhat put me out of touch with the going rate for a beer but I know a rip-off when I see one. In addition they expect you to wear smart casual clothing…who’s the customer, who’s paying their wages?. At their prices I should be able to wear a flipping fig leaf if I want too and all they should do is grin if I chose to bare it. T’was another long night and by the time I got home Nat had left for school, it was nearly 8:00 and Hannah was manipulating images on the PC. After a quick trip to the shops and a does of the old JK show I headed upstairs to Bedfordshire.

Great game both teams fairly equally matched so game more interesting. We had a huge argument on way home when Deb and I disagreed about best route. Stuck in traffic for ages and they didn’t go to the Nursery ot McDonalds. I went to ASDA on bike got some beers and got pissed.

Draft : Hannah Is Ten (10) Today!!! PLUS...
Thursday 9/12
Birthday Girl 10 Today
Hannah had opened all her presents, except DS game, before I got home …cow
Loves her phone and so does Nat
Nat still poorly but did papers with Deb
Bye Bye Nokia N8 – Stripped off all apps and personal data and saved passwords etc but forgot to copy notes re Harry Potter film and King & I
Nat & I watched the Apprentice
Bed
Hannah is hooked on her new phone
School Concert at St. Crispin’s / Hannah in choir and did a reading / Brief word Steve R and John S.
Start work 9:30 immediately in meeting re new EA team
I was asked to stay behind after others left to discuss possible problems with a new set up with Pramod. I declined to switch teams but I’m having second thoughts. It depends who’s in charge.
The call volume was not so busy tonight as the weather has improved and people are now aware of how to clear blocked condensate pipes.
JDM was stuck on the phone with a nutter who insisted we send out one of our guys to repair a local electrical substation that had blown and caused a power cut. Even after 20 minutes the man was still shouting at JDM and demanding we do the repair. He could not grasp the fact that we have nothing to do with electrical distribution. I don’t know where JDM finds the patience I wouldn’t have.
Liverpuddlian with no intestines bowls or stomach
Did returned to work with JDM then had in depth conversation re implications of change to EA structure on the night team.

See Yesterday, Unified Field Theory, Lipstick,
I refer you, dearest reader, to my entry of the previous inst. With no loss of vigour my thundering, chundering and grumbling tummy continued unabated, more and more poopy pants were birthed with each and every cough, weeze and sneeze and the Himalayan like mountain of dirty laundry continued its rapid journey heavenward.
It was during a particularly vicious sneeze and follow through that I first formulate my unified field theory describing, in the simplest terms, everything contained within the macro cosmic all; from the smallest to the largest, from the briefest to the virtually everlasting, from the darkest of dark matter to the brightest of supernovae. However, as simple as this theory is and as astonished as you would be to discover the secret of the origin of the Universe, I won’t bore you with it here. We’ll leave that for another day; astonishing you that is. Mind you, no matter how wondrous the revelation, if you’re like my daughter, if it doesn’t wear lipstick you’ll think it’s intrinsically boring regardless.

Tummy Bug, Poopy Pants, Money Money Money, Onederful.
I’d had an upset stomach all weekend and couldn’t stop farting and going to the loo. Things only got worse as each day passed and by Wednesday I was shitting myself whenever I coughed or sneezed and felt as if I was going to throw up at any moment.
I continued to experience these symptoms for the remained of the week and had to take Wednesday and Thursday as sick leave. The horrible thing is that I’m not sure that I had the full blown vomit bug that’s doing the rounds and clearing schools and work places. If I haven’t then I remain as at risk as anyone else of doing so! If that happens I’m afraid it’ll be nappies (diapers if you’re an American reader) to work as I can’t afford to take anymore time off.
I think the very best thing about winning a huge amount of money, on the lottery or some other way, would not be the facility to spend enormous sums of money but rather the sense of relief that would accompany the resultant freedom; especially freedom from obligations imposed upon one because of the necessity of remaining in employment! One might choose to continue to work but one would not be obliged to. If one felt like taking a day off there would be nothing and no one to stop one; additionally it would allow one to describe oneself as one in one’s writings as one has just done…and of course, that’s just Onederful!!!

Monday 29 Nov / Tuesday 30 Nov
Tonight our team was due to start our own four day stint and it wasn’t a delightful prospect. The weather continued to worsen all across the UK and people were desperately trying to get through to us. Slept most of the day, between trips to the toilet as my tummy got worse and worse. The night was as bad as expected and I was looking forward to the the fact that I’d booked the following night off as a holiday. I had a Governors meeting to attend and afterward we were supposed to be going out for a meal at the left bank restaurant.
The night finally came to an end and I came home happy in the knowledge that I wouldn’t be back for at least 36 hours. My tummy got worse. The school called to say that the meeting was still on but the meal had been cancelled because of the weather conditions.
The meeting was fairly brief, in the main due to the new chairpersons professional skills; Nick’s involved in local politics and works in local Government so he’s well verse in moving things along. We were done for 6:00 and I walked home with one of the new parent Governors Simon, a teacher at a secondary school who’d attended his first meeting that evening. I think he lives around the corner on the new estate but as usual I didn’t ask. You can take the boy out of the close knit Welsh village community where he hated the lack of privacy but you can’t take that hatred out of the boy. I go out of my way not to ask people about themselves.
As the evening went by…my stomach got worse; by the following morning I had the full blown bug and very sneeze or cough was accompanied by an expulsion of material from my lower parts. I very much doubt we’ll ever manage to get those pants clean again!
I did, I’ve just recalled, manage to take a few photos of the snow covered canal as I cycled home but they have come out incredibly dark. I thought the area was very bright, because of all the snow, but the pictures tell an entirely different story. Take a look for yourselves:
